The Sonam Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai war is getting hotter. It erupted when Ash made sure that Sonam did not walk with her at Cannes as the L'Oreal ambassadors from India. Sonam called her "auntyji". Ash at the inauguration of the L'oreal institute said that her tiff with Sonam had been blown up unnecessarily. Sonam dear was just a junior artist! Ouch!

Bollywood folks are funny. And fickle. Some months back Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja were like bread and jam. Inseparable. That was during the shooting of Love Story 2050. The film bombed (I guess it will be a hit in 2050) and the bond was broken. Some folks say Priyanka is so MATLABI. Anyway.

The Priyanka hitched up with Shahid Kapur. The liaison lasted for a few months. Then Shahid's lecturing on no booze, no non-veg etc got on Priyanka's nerves and despite the fact that the guy lovingly nursed her in hospital when she fell ill (some say she became sick because of him. Never knew Shahid was such a PAKAO) the damsel left him.

Now reports say Priyanka is getting cosy with her What's Your Rashee co-star, Harman Baweja. Yes, the same Harman. I don't know if this filmi pre-release publicity. If it is not Priyanka merges as a very opportunistic and fickle person.

Sanjay Dutt is doing well professionally. But his personal life is in a mess. Rumors say his wife number three is about to leave him. That when the courts refused to let the Dutt contest the Lok Sabha polls, wifey Manyata was keen to fight the elections in his place. Amar Singh and co. were not averse to the idea. After all YEH SAB TO politics MEIN CHALTA HAI. But hubby dear put his foot down and said no.

As to why he said nein, one can only conjecture. The simple reason may be that he is a MCP. That he believes the wife should stand at the door step and wave the hubby good bye when he leaves home for work. Or may be there is a deeper reason. The Dutt feels threatened by Manyata. He feels Manyata is only using him to further her own career prospects in life. This might be true. Manyata seems to be that sort, if I may be permitted to say so.

In that case Sanjay appears as a clown too. That guy does not understand people. He failed to recognise the real Manyata and married her.

Come to think of it. Sanjay Dutt's life has been a mess. First the drugs. Then the macho stuff with AK 56. Then he drifts away from his sisters, Namrata and Priya, who had been providing him some sort of stability. Then he separated from Rhea Pillai. Darned stupid thing to do if you ask me. That woman had substance and would have made his life. Sanjay was lucky that a girl like that had fallen in love with him.

His present bunch of so called buddies are doing him no good. Manyata as a wife is a disaster. The only good thing happening in his life now is his booming film career.

He seems to have begun to warm towards his arch enemy Shahrukh Khan (we still don't know why the two fought on July 16 last year!). When Riteish Deshmukh mentioned SRK's name during Dus Ka Dum, Salman's show on the telly, the hunk did not not chew off Riteish's head.

Also he wants that Shahrukh appear on the show. He also wants other Bollywood folks who are considered close to the Khan to come on his show.

Well one thing we now know for sure. That Salman and Katrina are still together. We had written a piece a few days ago in which, I admit, we got pretty vehement about the fact that Salman did not attend the preview of New York for his girl's sake.

But a few days back they were spotted at Water cafe, a new watering hole that has opened near Lilavati hospital. They seemed pretty happy together. Either Katrina is letting go small slights like Salman not attending the New York premiere. Or it is all love games. Which all must agree, are very treacherous.

And the Salman-Katrina relationship is so darned complex. Both are playing games with each other. It is a cat-and-mouse game. I guess those who are good at chess will figure the love moves the two are making.

There are many who scoff at the horror films churned out by the Ramsay brothers in the 1980s and 1990s. They argue they were technically lousy and most of the time they make you laugh rather than scare you.

That is not true. I went into a cinema theatre in 1979 apprehensively to watch Darwaza. It is considered to be one of the best Ramsay movies. I was not wrong. The movie was scary. Watch the video.

Unfortunately, the Ramsay brothers did not keep up with the times and innovate. Inevitably their later films flopped. Their space was taken over by the likes of Ram Gopal Verma.

The Ramsay films are part of our history. They are not to be scoffed at.

Dia Mirza: A case of sour grapes

Dia Mirza is a sweet actress. A very sexy woman. The internet and bloggers love her. But she can hardly be called a big actress in Bollywood. She has become more famous for her charm and sex-appeal than for her histrionic abilities.

And I doubt it if she will ever become an A Grade star like say Aishwarya Rai or Priyanka Chopra.

What does she have to say on that?

"What is commercial success? I left home at 17 and came to Mumbai. By 21, I bought an apartment of my own and started living independently. My ambition is to excel in what I do and not to compete with others."

Pardon me, folks, for sounding cynical, but that's a standard 'dialogue' of all actresses who have not reached the top. (Even the top actresses say that to thwart any jealousy and ego fights with other actresses snapping at their heels).

Worse still, Dia says she is 'appalled' at the kind of films made in Bollywood. Just look at the films made in China and Korea, she says.

She can go to Korea or China if she loves their films so much. Why act in Indian films if you hate them so much, Dia dear?

Dia Mirza sounds so artificial and pseudo. Disappointing. Such a lovely body and such a shallow, hypocritical mind.

I read today that Sanjay Gadhvi (the 'Dhoom' guy) is making a flick called '7 Days in Paris' and he wanted to sign Priyanka Chopra for the film. Priyanka wanted 5 crores. Gadhvi promptly said no and is considering taking Asin or Genelia D'Souza.

Why can't Priyanka ask for 5 crores? Actors in Bollywood have been asking for crores in 2 digits and getting it. Or they are asking for a percentage from the collections of the film. And getting it too.

Why this bias against woman in Bollywood. Priyanka Chopra was a big factor behind the success of Dostana. She gave award winning performance in Fashion. She has the capacity to carry a film on her shoulders. So why can't she ask for a suitable price. After all charity is an alien word in Bollywood.

Bollywood still has that male-dominating mindset. That women are mere pieces of fluff, included just for decoration in a film.

But times are changing. Aishwarya Rai, Kanagana Ranaut and Priyanka Chopra are actress with a lot box-office pull. When they ask for their reasonable price, the producers should agree, instead of taking some bimbette in their place.

The end product will be far more superior.

Salman Khan skips Katrina Kaif's 'New York' preview! MALE CHAUVINISTIC PIG!

MCP! That is what Salman Khan is proving to be. What else do you call a guy who refuses to share his friend's happiness by going to watch the preview of her new film? And the critics have appreciated Katrina's work in New York. This is good news for Katrina who has been torn apart by the critics for her performance in all her earlier films. Wooden. Can't act. Just a pretty face. Just tit and ass, nothing else. Bimbo. This has been the gist of what the critics have said of Katrina's acting in earlier flicks.

But her work in New York has been praised by these same critics. And Katrina is happy. And she would have loved that her friend (boyfriend, lover) had shared this joy by attending the special preview of the film. But what does Sallu bhai do? He does a bunk!

Katrina tried hard to convince this slob of male chauvinism to come. But he did not budge. Reports say he did not like the love scene of Katrina with John Abraham in New York. In fact he is so darned jealous that he does not let her wear revealing dresses when they went to filmi parties. What a jerk!

And he refuses to share her happiness in a job well done in New York. Hardly the right guy for Katrina. She deserves a better man. Not this piece of male insecurity called Salman Khan.

A R Rehman: 'MJ, for most of our generation, was an icon who made uncompromising music. He pushed the milestone of pop music to unbelievable levels through the 80s and 90s. The guy first appeared in Johnny Gaddar and made an impact. His acting was rusty but he has screen presence. And the girls loved him.

His second flick Aa Dekhen Zara created no earthquakes at the box-office. Now Neil Nitin Mukesh's New York is releasing.

Some dope on the guy. And what he thinks about himself.

How does he choose a film?
The first thing that I look for is the director and then my character. If it was not for a director like Sriram Raghavan I might have never been able to do a role like ‘Johnny Gaddaar’ the way I did it. The length of the role does not really matter, but the strength of the character does. Otherwise I would not have been doing ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’.

How has he changed after Johnny Gaddar?
It hasn’t changed life as such. Neil has changed only in the sense that he has become more humble, more down to earth, more responsible and a more caring person. The only other factor is time. I would like to spend a lot of time with my family and friends. But again, I am a little troublesome. Because when I have no work I am just not normal. I get restless, agitated and irritated! Work is an addiction for me. If I am sitting idle then I start thinking of all possible illnesses.

On charges that he has become arrogant and money-minded
People who don’t suck up to others are generally quoted as arrogant. I am here to do my work. I am definitely not arrogant, choosy or picky. But I am careful.

Money is something that I have never seen as a part of achievement. I have mentioned this before and I will say it again that for me the biggest high is to earn a name for myself. Many people can make money but how many of those can actually make a name?

My whole agenda is to make a name and go on with my legacy. People who have known Nitin Mukesh and knew Mukesh will definitely know that Neil Mukesh is as down to earth as his father and his grandfather. I refuse films if I feel I won’t be able to do justice to the character. But people get upset and some spread rumours like I charge too much or that I have become arrogant. I am actually doing films for peanuts as I take scripts which I love.

Aishwarya even playfully pulled Abhishek along by the hands at one stage when she thought he was taking too long in moving along as he chatted to the media.

But it was during the awards ceremony Saturday night that the couple revelled in their love for each other amidst their performances on stage.
“Baby, you’re the best,” Abhishek said off the stage as he accepted the award for the Best Comic Role playing a pseudo-gay character in the hit film Dostana last year.

Earlier, when Aishwarya got the award for outstanding achievement by an Indian in global cinema, she said in her thanks to all her family: “You’re the best husband!”

Towards the end of the show, as Abhishek danced through the 15,000-seater packed auditorium, he stopped by Aishwarya’s seat and even got her to jump up and dance with him in front of her seat.

When Abhishek broke down and choked with emotion about he had aspired to be like his father when he saw Amitabh’s role in “Amar Akbar Anthony” as a child, the shared emotion was clear on Aishwarya’s face shown on the screens around the arena. And every time that he laughed or joked, she showed great joy too.

I have a sneaking suspicion that all this is a bad case of over-acting; a put-on act. Maybe showbiz folks are always like this; artificial.

With movies as diverse as SUR and KAANTE (both of which released in 2002), it had seemed that there was yet another addition to the list of unconventional actors in Bollywood. Lucky Ali had impressed in both, former being a musical and the latter being a thriller. However, he chose to lie low over all these years and only did occasional films like KASAK and GOOD LUCK, none of them boasting of anything worthwhile to talk home about.

Kasak what? Proves the point. In Kaante Lucky was no great shakes either. No wonder he got no more roles after that. But I wonder why did he not pursue singing in Bollywood. People love his voice. I guess he is a mercurial guy who wanders all over the world all the time.

Now Lucky Ali is returning to the big screen with RUNWAY, an action thriller, where he is playing the role of a super villain named Khalid. A suave and dashing Pakistani who was the highest ever paid assassin in the world of crime, Khalid is a character that has a red alert declared against him by the Interpol for the past many years.

You started off with films like Uff Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai. So then why did you move to television?
Television just happened when I was shooting for a Punjabi film and a movie called Blue Oranges. I just couldn't resist this offer because it sounded so original and innovative. And television is as big as films these days.

Rajshri was a huge banner to start with. What kind of roles were you looking at then?

I always wanted to do author-backed roles. And I am happy with the way my career has shaped up. I have got the chance to essay many different roles.

How would you define your role in Palampur Express?
I play the role of Pavni, a very ambitious girl who is very focused on her running. While girls her age are discussing crushes and exchanging makeup, her only goal is to bring glory to her country.

Sport is not an explored genre on Indian television. Do you think this serial will be accepted by the audience?
Of course. Sports as a concept has worked very well in Bollywood. Lagaan, Iqbal, Chak De India, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar have been superhits. I think this show is going to be special because Indians have never seen this concept on TV.

Are you a sports enthusiast?
I am a fitness freak, but not a sports enthusiast. However, now I have been training for running. Besides, I also watch a bit of cricket.

How did you prepare yourself for this role?
I had to work very hard on my look. Girls in the mountainous regions are not very lady-like. So I had to work on my walk and also my voice. It had to be high-pitched. Also, I wear slippers and tie them up most of the time during shoots, because the concept of keds is not known to many here. I have to always tie my hair into a ponytail because it is distracting otherwise. I have also been watching Olympics CDs to see how they run and so on.

You have done films in various languages. Hasn't language ever been a barrier to you?

Never. Although I have done four films in Kannada, I cannot speak the language. But if I get two pages of dialogues in Kannada, I will be able to deliver them in an hour, expressions in place.

What's next on the agenda?
Nothing much. I am focusing on Palampur Express, because I need to be in every frame here.

The delicate and dainty Celina was rehearsing the dance steps with Tusshar for a song in Run Bhola Run when the incident happened. The duo, along with Govinda and Amisha Patel were practicing their dance steps under the guidance of choreographer Bosco-Caesar.

While doing a step with Celina, Tusshar grabbed her arm so tight that Celina says it broke one bangle and left her with a bruise.

However, Tusshar was so much into dancing that he did not realize that he’d hurt Celina. The next day, when Celina showed him her bruises, Tusshar refused to believe he had caused them. An upset Celina got into a squabble with him; she called the choreographer and make-up artiste to prove to Tusshar that the bruise had indeed been caused by him.

After that ugly scene the two stars kept sulking and did not talk for a couple of days. Celina says she and Tusshar even ignored each other at a party just days after the incident.

Hmmm, I think once in a way it's fun for a woman to chase a man. I would enjoy wooing a man, who is not paying me too much attention, because I would love to know the reason. He'll definitely keep me on my toes.

So what traits in a man would attract you?
At first instant it would be the way he carries himself. That would be in the way he greets me, my family and in the way he treats the help in the house. Insecurity is a lousy thing. True love is beautiful, but in today's world of sophisticated selfishness it has become a rarity.

You may ask why on earth am I blabbering such profound horse-shit. Patience, please.

I said those things in relation to Priyanka Chopra. Here is a bubbly girl, in the prime of her life. She has reached the top in Bollywood. But we did not know that this was just the beautiful surface. Inside is an insecure girl, who has always longed for love. She met Shahid and fell in love. She thought she had found the elusive love she had been pining for.

But it is not to be.

On the surface, Shahid is the textbook perfect lover. Ever caring, ever loving. He was by her bedside all the time while Priyanka was at the hospital. And after the discharge, he put a ban on her having the pearly stuff, giving the excuse that alcohol would be bad for her.

Nice. Most of the girls would weep at the display of such real love.

But is this real love?

Ever since Priyanka has been dating Shahid, the guy has been imposing his beliefs on her. No non-veg food. No booze. He had tried that on Kareena too, but Kareena understood that this was a prison with golden bars. It was not love.

Love never lays down conditions. Love never tries to change a person. Real love is accepting the person as he/she is.

Jiah Khan makes news by being dropped from a record number of movies. I will let this report in One India tell you the details

Jiah Khan seems to be having a tough time in Bollywood and has been thrown out of a movie yet again. Jiah was signed by Owais Husain son of celebrated artist M F Hussain for his directorial debut. But Owais suddenly found Jiah not to be fit for the role and replaced her with Sonal Chauhan in the untitled movie which also stars Anurag Sinha of Black and White fame.

How does a director find that an actress is not suitable for the film after 90% of the shooting is over? Beats me. I sniff the casting couch here.

This is the second time the Nishabd actress has been dumped from a role. She was thrown out of Ken Ghosh's Yahoo starring Shahid Kapoor as the Jab We Met star was not to happy with the sizzling actress starring opposite him. Jiah had later said that she had walked out of the movie. In the past Jiah was thrown out of Tumsa Nahi Dekha by Anurag Basu after she started throwing tantrums on the sets.

It is either that Jiah is obtaining films by means that would make a Victorian lady shake her head in dismay or may be she is a stupid girl who trips up every time. There is something darned fishy about Jiah Khan.

While many producers and directors have tried their best to get Govinda to mend his ways and stop delaying shoots, no one has managed to pull off this impossible task. Enter Amisha Patel. Recently when they were shooting together, the actress got the actor to stay back and shoot for a few hours more to save the producer some money in recession times.

A source from the unit squeals, "We were filming a song sequence with Govinda and Amisha for Run Bhola Run at Film City last week at night. Around 8 pm Govinda decided to pack up! He told the director that he had some work at home and had to leave."

The source continues, "The situation on the set was tense as the actor was required for a couple of shots more, and if he walked out, it meant wasting half a shift the next day which mean additional expenditure. The director begged him to reconsider but Chi Chi was adamant."

Amisha was watching this drama unfold from the sidelines. Adds the source, "When Chi Chi was walking out, Amisha went up to him and said, 'Chi Chi please karlo na.' She told him that they would complete shoot by 10 pm. She told him that would save half day's shoot the next day, and they coukld get more work done the following. And to everyone's surprise, Govinda who never listens to anybody meekly acquiesced."

The power of women! Or rather the power of a charming, beautiful woman! Cleopatra started this thing. And Govinda was always the horny guy; a lady's man.

Dusky actress Chitrangada Singh is playing important roles in two of Sudhir Mishra's projects and says she is getting repeat roles in his films is thanks to her sense of 'comfort and responsibility' with the director.

'I feel a sense of comfort and responsibility with him. He has always been there for me in the industry and we share a mutual respect for each other. I think it's also because I completely believe in him as a director,' Chitrangada says.

It really happened. Actor Akshay Kumar's wife Twinkle was arrested and released on bail for her unbuttoning act at the recent Lakm and #233; Fashion Week.

Akshay is in South Africa right now, but the police are waiting to arrest him upon his return - he is supposed to be back in about 10 days. Their friends in the industry are in shock.

The bail amount was Rs 950. The arrest follows a complaint of obscenity filed by activist Anil Nair in reaction to Twinkle undoing the top button of Akshay's jeans at Tarun Tahiliani's LFW show, sponsored by Levi's.

Director Anees Bazmee, who is close to the couple, says he is not against the law, but that as a friend, he finds this distressing.

"So much is shown on TV and films which may be considered far more obscene than just the unbuttoning of [the] jeans, which was in sync with the brand's campaign. Some people are conspiring against Akshay, but I wish that he comes out unscathed.

The stuff on screen passes through the censors. The fashion event was being beamed live to family audiences, that the difference. If unzipping jeans was part of the jeans campaign, do it somewhere else, not on live telecast TV, for God's sake!

" Anthony D'Souza, who is directing Akki in Blue, says that Akshay and Twinkle are "very simple people and are too far removed from [any] obscenity". He feels they are "too dignified to be a part of this ruckus".

Dignified people do not unzip jeans in public, not even for money.

The act, he said, "was a gimmick and nobody imagined it would become this big a controversy. We as an industry are with Akshay.

We had earlier reported that the so called friendliness between Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan was only for promoting the interests' of producers v/s multiplexes. The two had got together only for furthering their interests; they are both producers themselves.

Before the meeting, Aamir had flatly refused to hold it at SRK's Mannat. He was averse to his house as the choice of the venue. As a compromise it was finally held at Karan Johar's Union Park residence.

Even as preparations and brain-storming was going on, the chemistry between the two was tinged with hostility. Stardust reports two instances when SRK made cracks at Aamir. Aamir let it pass then as the meeting was more important. I quote from Stardust,

.....while having pastries that were being served at the venue. SRK was heard gingerly remarking that with ‘Aamir around, I would have to eat something extra sweet.’

That is what Barbara Mori did to Hrithik Roshan.

Initially when news started coming in about Hrithik's growing infatuation with Barbara, Suzanne the level-headed lady, shrugged it off as if it were of no consequence. After all she grew up in the film industry and understood only too well that rumors float around galore in Bollywood, most of them false.

But when she could no longer deny the growing liaison between her husband and the lovely Mexican model, she talked to Hrithik about it. But the response she got was far from satisfactory.

Suzanne tolerated the situation as long as she could. When she could not, she left her house and went back to Pa Sanjay Khan's home.

This drastic step precipitated sense into Hrithik. He realised that he was going to lose his love and his family, all because of his infatuation with the Latino beauty. May be pa Rakesh Roshan too drilled some sense into him and told him to think with his head and not with his dick.

But the morning before, she had said, "Where do you hear these things?" she asked. "Hrithik and I are happy. I don't believe the rumours about Barbara Mori."

The lovely daughter of Shotgun is no less lethal. At the recent Lakme Fashion Week, when designer Pallavi Jajpur asked her to walk the ramp with the current hot Neetu Chandra, Sonakshi Sinha flatly refused and walked alone.

I can't say whether the refusal stemmed from jealousy (Neetu is her senior in Bollywood), snobbery (the fashion folks look down upon 'lowly' Bollywood mortals} or simply that she did not like the idea of sharing the ramp with the heavy hipped (and we love it!) Neetu.

But Sonakshi is one hell of a babe. Though she agrees that she wants to come into Bollywood because of her dad, it is clear the lady has a mind of her own.

Style according to Sonakshi
Style is what which suits you. It’s essential for one to wear what suits them. Regardless of whether you are fat, slim, fair or dark, you want to look good. And you can look good, provided you know what looks good on you. I used to be very fat I used to wear those clothes which used to look good on me.

On brands
Not really, but I do wear branded dresses. Brands don’t really matter. You can find great clothes on the street as well. But if you have the money, then you usually shop at branded stores. So I don’t know whether I really am a brand freak.
Sonakshi's summer dress code
Well, I will suggest you go with white short pants with light-coloured t-shirts. Or jeans with white t-shirts. Don’t wear dark-coloured dresses because it’s hot. And please don’t get out of your home without applying sun block because it’s a must in the summer. And wear trendy glares. Also, wash your face as often as you can.

Favourite shopping destinations
Paris. I love the place.... I like to shop on the streets of Colaba. I like funky accessories.

Having a good figure
It’s very important. If you love to wear good dresses, you need a good figure. Only then will the dress’s look come out. If you are wearing a beautiful dress but your tummy is out, it won’t look as nice. So it’s very important that a model stays fit. One needs to stay healthy.

Why Bollywood?
My father, I guess. Often, lawyers children become lawyers, the same with doctors. I did my Fashion Designing course from SNDT and I loved it. I will pursue it if I get some good offers. But I am not an actress. I am a fashion designer.
Well, as of now I am only concentrating on my modeling career. And no good script has come my way. When the right one comes along, I will certainly show interest.

With the release of your first film, you are everywhere with nominations both in the best debutante and best actor category. How does it feel to be part of such a dream debut?
I have been lucky. A film like Ghajini is definitely a dream debut in Bollywood. I would be lying if I utter that I am not overwhelmed with the response of my first film in Mumbai. It's been great to sail through all the adulations and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

The media is already naming you as the next big thing. Do you think they have been especially kind to you?
It's nice to know when people have such expectations from you. I am thankful to the media for rating me highly. But I guess I have lots more to do and have a long way to go. I have just taken baby steps in the industry and just hoping that my decision would be fruitful for me in the right way.

You are an established actor in the south but everybody terms you as a newcomer in Bollywood. What do you have to say about that?
That's not something unfair. I am happy that people over here are welcome to changes and they have accepted me. I don't have any qualms being called a newcomer considering that I have done only one film in Hindi. The audience has given me a warm welcome and I have no complaints.

Why do we always see you moving around with your father?
My father is my support system. I feel at home when he is with me and insecurity never creeps in.

Tell us something about your character in your next film London Dreams, in which you are paired opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan.
I am not allowed to talk about the film before the release date comes closer. But one thing I can say is that my character Priya is completely different from what I have done in Ghajini. And it's been great fun shooting for the movie.

Do you have any dream role as an actor?
I don't have any celluloid characters as my super-favourite. But I would love to play a boy. It would be something very different and exciting.

The recession is taking its toll on Bollywood! Yash Raj Films (YRF) and Karan Johar were like bread and butter for a long, long time. The 'love story' between the two dates back to the director’s first movie “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” in 1998. It has since then been distributing all of Johar’s productions, including “Kabhi Khushi Khabie Gham”, “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna” and “Dostana”.

But recession has played spoilsport. When things get tough, you do every thing possible to get a better deal. UTV provided just that to Karan Johar. Karan has sold the rights of his next two films Wake Up Sid and Rensil D'Silva's untitled film to UTV for a whopping Rs60 crores.

Karan explains things...
“Our priorities(Karan's and UTV's) are similar. First cinema, then the business of cinema. We both understand that it's finally about business. UTV has made niche cinema into a mainstream event. Their sense of publicity and marketing is amazing.”
“We've gone more by emotion than practicality. Maybe we need to get more business-like in our dealings. I feel a certain warmth towards Ronnie which, compounded with his business sense, will help us grow.”

What did the 'jilted lover' say?

“As always, Dharma Productions had offered some films to us. However, at this point in time we have taken a conscious decision not to acquire any films but to only produce and distribute our own. They respected and accepted this. It is purely a business decision,” said Rafiq Gangjee, vice president (Marketing and Communication) at YRF.

Karan Johar: It's a proud moment for our fraternity. This is just the beginning. Rahman and Resul are flagbearers for an entire movement in world cinema where India is going to play a major part. More power to them and thank you Rahman and Resul for this master-stroke of a flag-off.

Deepa Mehta: It's just fabulous. I can't think of anyone more deserving. What a great day for Rahman. What a great day for India and Indians. We always knew Rahman was talented and brilliant. And now the world knows it.

Preity Zinta: You've no idea how euphoric I'm feeling. I've been up and dancing all morning. I mean Rahman and Gulzar saab are the jewels of Indian cinema. They did my first ever song 'Jiya jale' in 'Dil Se'. And they've been doing consistently outstanding work. What Rahman did in 'Slumdog Millionaire' was to bring out a kind of clever fusion which just clicked with the world. I love him for it.

The one that I'm happiest for is Resul. To be honest I knew little about his work until 'Slumdog Millionaire'. 'Dil Chahta Hai' was the first Hindi film with live sound. Now, of course, sound in our cinema is finally making itself heard. It's sad but true that we very often wait for the West to recognise a genius. My heart had broken when I had seen how little kids were shown to be treated in Mumbai in 'Slumdog Millionaire'. It was so true and so sad. Now my heart swells with pride. I'm so happy I don't know if I'm coming or going.

Shabana Azmi: Rahman is a genius like no other. His music is informed by his spirituality. His success in the international arena was written in stone. No surprises there. Resul has brought the spotlight on the skill and prowess of Indian technicians. As a fellow student of the FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) I feel doubly proud. But for me the greatest thrill is that a small independent film rather than a big budget studio film has won the best film. I'm thrilled for my friend Anil Kapoor. He has walked the path less travelled and is reaping the dividends.

Bipasha Basu: I was so sure that he would get it. Long before he had won, I had typed a text message saying A.R. Rahman has done it. I think Resul and Rahman have made all us Indians proud. What an amazing performance by Rahman. And his acceptance speeches were so real confident and dignified. I'm so happy. For the first time in my life I was late for work because I was watching the Oscars.

Shilpa Shetty: I cried when I heard Resul's name being announced. Those tears of joy were for all of us. I felt I had won the Oscar. Resul and Rahman both deserved it. We waited long. But the wait has been worth it.

Alka Yagnik: Very very well-deserved. Rahman and Resul have done us all very proud. They're our real heroes, the jewels in India's crown. I'm so fortunate to have been a part of the 'Slumdog Millionaire' soundtrack. God bless both Rahman and Resul. Jai ho!

Ranbir Kapoor's mom, Neetu Singh admits she was nervous while facing the camera after more than 25 years for comeback film 'Do Dooni Chaar', in which she stars opposite husband Rishi Kapoor.

'Yes, I was indeed nervous when I was called for my first shot in the film. I was facing the camera after more than 25 years and was conscious on the sets.'

'I was wondering how I would be able to memorise my dialogues and deliver them well. It was bound to happen though and I settled down after my initial nervous moments'

Not everyone is ecstatic at Slumdog getting the Oscar. Midnight's Children's writer Salman Rushdie is one of them.

He says some not very nice things about Slumdog.

He says the movie 'piles impossibility on impossibility'.

In January he had told the New York Times: 'I'm not a very big fan of 'Slumdog Millionaire'.'

I think it's visually brilliant. But I have problems with the storyline. I find the storyline unconvincing. It just couldn't happen. I'm not adverse to magic realism but there has to be a level of plausibility, and I felt there were three or four moments in the film where the storyline breached that rule.'
